Many change initiatives fail before implementation because the organization starts communicating activity before it has defined the problem, the affected groups and the conditions needed for adoption. Change communication works best when it is integrated into the decision, not added at the end.

Questions leaders should answer first

What problem is the change solving, and what happens if nothing changes?

Which groups will experience the greatest impact, and what will they need to understand or do differently?

Which decisions, resources and leaders are required to make the change credible?

How will feedback, resistance and unintended effects be identified early?

Communication should create clarity

People need a credible explanation of why the change is necessary, what is known, what remains uncertain, what will happen next and where they can raise practical concerns. Consistency among leaders is as important as the initial message.
